It’s 2013 and i’m still playing blog catch up. However this is going to be the last location specific blog post I write for a while on Central America. I’m now in Cartagena Colombia and have my sights set on what is ahead.

Having said that…..

This past Christmas I had the opportunity to spend it on the tropical paradise island of Bocas Del Toro in Panama.

That is when its not pouring with rain for 2 days straight!

But although it was raining everyone in the hostel still managed to have a good time. The purchase of a 2 litre bottle of rum and 5 litres of coca cola helped to lighten the mood

But luckily the rain cleared briefly in the afternoon to give us some time to go to a nearby beach.

After an afternoon of relaxing on the beach we returned back to the hostel for a family style christmas dinner.  It wasnt the same as being with family but with all the friends I’d met at the hostel it was a really good atmosphere and everyone had a lot of fun.

On boxing day we were greeted with an amazingly beautiful sunny day and as this was my last day in Bocas Del Toro I really wanted to see what beautiful beaches this paradise had to offer. After numerous recommendations on which beach was the best a group of us from the hostel decided to go to Starfish Beach which is located a short bus ride from bocas del drago.

Starfish beach named for the many starfish visible in the water.

Overall my time on Bocas Del Toro was interesting and despite the rain it was still a lot of fun. However in terms of amazing beaches I still personally felt the beaches of Playa Del Carmen and beaches of Tulum were far better. in terms of crystal clear water and powdery white sand.

Looks like you had a great Christmas. I know you’re used to a sunny xmas anyway but I just can’t imagine celebrating the day in a hot place without the inevitable British rain and cold – we’ll certainly find out what it’s like next Christmas though when we’re in Asia!
