As I write this post It has been 144 days since I left on my journey across Latin America and over 182 days since I left my job to sell all of my belongings in Montreal and prepare to embark on this adventure of self discovery.

Flying from Montreal to start my Latin American Adventure

Over the last 6 months I’ve had countless people ask me why I travel? or why I chose to travel Latin America. Many people have different motivations to travel whether it be to experience cultures different from their own. See amazing places, meet people from all around the world to even trying their food. While all of these reasons are in a way why I wanted to travel but I would be lying if I said that was my primary reason.

Antigua – One of my favorite cities in my travels

For me traveling was a means of escaping reality, experiencing true freedom and finding myself.

Me looking out over the Tulum ruins in Mexico

When I left Montreal as people who have been following my blog from the beginning or have read my “Building Up From Rock Bottom!” post will know that I was extremely burnt out from my job and career and trying to find myself after getting out of an 8 year relationship.

Volcano Boarding Leon Nicaragua

I set out with no set plans or idea on what I wanted to do or where I wanted to go when I was finished traveling. All I knew was that if I stuck to a rough budget of $30 USD a day I could travel for 7 months 3 months in central america and 4 months in South America well lets just say that never quite worked out haha. But I am totally fine with that and I wouldnt change a thing.

In the end I did Central America in 2 months ,1 week in Colombia,1 month in Ecuador and 1 Month in Peru and this particular chapter of my travels will be coming to an end on 20th of March

Me looking super cool in my rafting gear in Banos Ecuador

A couple of weeks ago after putting off the decision I had dreaded making most. The decision that meant I had to return to reality. I made the choice on where to go once my travels had finished. It was a really tough decision between Australia and Canada. Eventually I decided that it was time to head back home to Brisbane Australia to catch up with family and old friends.

Plus I figured the option to go to Canada or overseas again within the next 6-12 months was still there after I saved up a bit more money.

Making friends with a Squirrel monkey in Puyo Ecuador

Although I am a little sad to be leaving my backpacking life behind for now to return to the real world of getting a job and saving up money but at the same time I am excited. Excited to see what the next chapter of life brings.

Will this be the end of my travels and the end of this blog? of course not I’ve experienced the freedom travel and it will always be a big part of my life.

Sacred Valley near Cusco PEru

I want to thank all of my awesome followers who have been with me for this crazy adventure and I apologize for how inconsistent my updates have been of late. I always had a rule when traveling that I wouldn’t let my blogging get in the way of the awesome experiences I could be having while traveling and as a result of of that trying to find a spare few hrs where I was completely alone and had time to just concentrate on my blog were very rare.

Ok so too much partying also got in the way of my blog writing (Temple Club in Cusco Peru)

However

now that i’m back in the land of OZ( After a fun series of flights that took over 37 hours and took me through 5 airports) I shall have plenty of time to play catch up and let you guys know about all the crazy awesome things that have happened in the last 2 months of my travels in South America as well as what exciting new travel plans are on the horizon for me.

I for one am sad that your travels have come to an end – I’ll miss the stories! It’s hard trying to make that call of when it’s time to go home, but as you say – it doesn’t have to mean the end of your travels, just a hiatus to rest up and earn some more beer and hostel money. We should try and meet for a beer in Aus, it’s a pretty small country, right?! 🙂
