On my way over from Australia to Europe I got my first taste of South East Asia  in Thailand, over the four weeks I was there I traveled all over, visited a lot of amazing destinations and heard stories from fellow travelers of many more great places. So today I want to present to you My Top 5 Best Thailand Travel Destinations, based off my experiences in Thailand.

5. Ko Phi Phi

Ko Phi Phi

Located in the province of Krabi in Southern Thailand. Ko Phi Phi is made up of a series of islands with Ko Phi Phi Don being the largest,There are many activities such as laying on one of the many picturesque beaches, diving, or taking a night swim amongst the glowing plankton, I also heard from many backpackers that there is a booze cruise that would take you to one of the small islands where you could booze the night away, The island of Ko Phi Phi Ley recently gained popularity when locations were used in the 2000 movie “The Beach”.

4. Bangkok

Bangkok Temple 640

Next on the list is Thailand’s capital Bangkok, with a mix of modern and ancient tradition this is the main landing point for most people flying into Thailand, with its river boat rides, museums, buzzing nightlife on Khao San road and, of course, the many temples, Bangkok is a must see for anyone travelling in Thailand.

3. Koh Tao

beach Koh Tao thailand 640

Third on my list is the island of Koh Tao, This island is located on the eastern shore near the gulf of Thailand and is a short boat ride from the popular Koh Phangan where the full moon parties are held, however while there are many beachside bars including one with nightly fire twirlers, skipping ropes, as well as a nightly pub crawl on the island,it’s diving that is the main attraction with over 7000 divers being certified each year Koh Tao is one of the cheapest and most popular places in the world to get your dive certification, you can even learn freediving here as well.

2. Chiang Mai

chiang Mai Night Market

Located in the north of Thailand, the once walled city of Chiang Mai is home to many attractions such as the famous night market that sprawls along several blocks of the city. where hundreds of merchants sell food, handicrafts, clothing and many imported goods. If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a bit, go on one of the many treks through the jungle, Or for the more adventurous visit one of the elephant sanctuaries where you can feed the elephants.

1. Pai

Pai Thailand

Coming in at number one on my list of top travel destinations is my favorite place in all of Thailand,Set in a picturesque valley in the north ,Pai is a very laid back tourist town, with many of the residents being hippies or Thai rasta’s or Muslims it has created a very chilled out vibe. Pai is often described as a Thai Island getaway without the beach,Whether your de-stressing with a Thai massage or having a lazy afternoon reading a book in one of the many massage parlors, coffee shops or restaurants Pai is a great place to relax.

There are over 350 guest houses in town including a hostel in which I stayed at just out of town which was in the middle of a rice paddy field,or if your looking for something a little different there is a circus school/hostel in town where you can stay and learn to be a circus performer.

So when looking to book your next cheap vacation or planning one of your next low-cost holidays hopefully you will consider one of these beautiful Thailand travel destinations.

What is your favorite destination in Thailand and why? I would love to hear about it in the comments below.

Never made it to Chiang Mai, but loved the lantern festival. It looked so beautiful this year, absolutely fantastic. Most of budget travel bloggers live there :).

    Thailand is awesome!
I’ve spent a considerable amount of time in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Also visited Ko Phi Phi, but never Pai or Koh Tao. Gotta make it there sometime in the future! Could spend years just exploring all the different island in Thailand.. such good vibes!
